Job Description
Mandatory Skills
o Developed multithreaded components (parallelism, synchronization, contention issues, semaphores…)
o Data structures (hashmap, arraylist, etc) underlying implementation, which structure to use, cost of inserts/lookups
o Straight JDBC: transactions, exception handling, prepared statements, SQL, ACID…
o I/O: network, file I/O, Channels, NIO is a strong plus, buffered I/O
o RPC, RMI
o Some minimum level of comfort with Linux is a must (command line, ssh, etc..)
o Databases: can manipulate Postgres, MySQL or DB2 (create, lookup, create index, store procedure..)
o Design: object oriented programming, understand importance of modular code, encapsulation, extensibility,…
o Testing: has written unit tests (Junit)
Nice to haves
o Distributed systems, high availability, redundancy, failover, load balancing
o Archiving, document management, ECMs…
o Search engines and document content extraction
o Jboss (particularly MBeans)
o Lucene or other search engines
o Web services (on the producer end, client development not as relevant)
Senior Positions
o Performance optimization: methodology for measuring performance, find bottlenecks, understand typical performance impediments (heavy I/O, network, database (indexes…), computational)
o Scalability: resource management, caching, load balancing, etc..
o High Availability
